So, here we are \u2013 almost at the end of another year and I am once again asking myself \u2018Where did that go?\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s a sign of getting older (I have a big birthday coming up on 31 December \u2013 and before you say it, no, not my 60th) but time feels like it\u2019s moving faster and faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What often makes me realise how much time has flown by is how much our businesses have changed, developed and evolved over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been doing this business reporting thing for a while now, for my sins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve seen companies and the people who run them come – and sadly, go, in some cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve seen the peaks and the troughs and reported on the highs and the lows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in between, I\u2019ve reported on the many companies who have been right at the beginning of their business journey \u2013 some of whom have gone on to be highly successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One such example is Derby’s HSG UK<\/a>. Quite a few years ago I remember going out to Ilkeston, where the company was then based, to interview managing director Simon Rice about some new water-saving device they\u2019d come up with for gents\u2019 urinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, roll forward to the present. Last month, HSG was presented with the King\u2019s Award for Enterprise in Innovation \u2013 the second time the firm has received what is widely regarded as the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
