Over The Wall Camp<\/a> is inviting families with children living with a long-term health challenge to experience the magic of mischief at its new Derbyshire base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applications have opened to attend one of the charity\u2019s free residential camps in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n

The majority of next year\u2019s camps \u2013 Health Challenge Camps, Siblings Camps, Family Camps and Home Education Camps – are due to take place at the charity\u2019s new \u2018forever home\u2019 at the former Ockbrook School in Derbyshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, Over The Wall Camp secured a 40-year lease for the former school, which closed in June 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first phase of the work is currently underway to create wheelchair-accessible accommodation and communal spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three and five-day residentials provide a safe and supportive place for children, aged eight to 17 years, to rediscover the magic and mischief of childhood, increase self-confidence, form friendships, and develop independence through fun and exciting activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activity programmes are carefully designed to present children with opportunities to challenge themselves and develop new talents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities include arts and crafts, team games, climbing, campfires, archery, and more, in age-appropriate teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of the \u2018OFSTED Outstanding\u2019 rated camps has a clinical team of staff and volunteers, including qualified doctors, nurses and paramedics who provide safe and effective care for each child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camps can safely accommodate children currently receiving treatment or experiencing health challenges for over 130 different illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shea Donovan, chief operating officer at Over The Wall Camp, said: \u201cCamp is where the magic happens. Yes, we do a lot of fun things at camp, but it\u2019s how we do it that makes all the difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur camp programmes are based on a \u2018Therapeutic Recreation\u2019 model, backed by the medical world, which helps children affected by serious illness regain their confidence and self-esteem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn camp, children feel empowered and supported to step out of their comfort zones and realise their abilities in a safe environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe changes we see in children and young people are profound and have a lasting impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMany families with children with long-term health conditions spend their lives adapting and seeking a sense of belonging. On camp, they can relax, be fully \u2018seen\u2019, and feel safe to play, learn and grow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
